Ian is a partner in our civil and commercial litigation team. 

Ian has extensive experience in a wide range of civil and commercial litigation and in the District Court, Employment Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.  Ian’s specialist areas include insurance law, medico-legal law, trust law and sports law.

Ian is active in the legal community and in the wider community, with a particular interest in sport.  He is a convenor of a New Zealand Law Society Standards Committees in Canterbury and is the President of the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association (ANZSLA).  He is an Association Commissioner for New Zealand Cricket, and is a Vice President of Broken River Ski Club.  Ian is active in a variety of sports as a participant and legal advisor.

Ian graduated from the University of Canterbury in 1982 and was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in 1984, and as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 1999.  He holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Sports Law from King’s College, London.  Ian joined Young Hunter in 1988 and has been a partner since 1992.
