Young Hunter partner Chris Cooper brings a unique flavour to the firm – described as a “safe pair of hands” by his clients, he thrives on tackling complex negotiations and transactions on behalf of clients from around the globe who are doing business in New Zealand.
Known as a deal maker who can bring a range of disparate parties together and get the job done, Chris has the skills to step back from transactions and look at the wider picture to create solutions that work for all parties. He is often the drafter of the complex documents required by his clients and those his clients do business with, and takes the time to break down complex issues visually for his clients, ensuring they have a clear understanding of exactly what’s involved.
He makes a point of ensuring communication flows smoothly with his clients, letting them know that he is focused on their project, and pro-actively keeping them updated on any developments.
Chris is not a lawyer who waits for his clients to follow up to find out what’s happening – he is always ahead of the game, ensuring peace of mind and developing a high level of trust in his expertise and focus on the tasks at hand.
He has many impressive wins on the board on his clients’ behalf – including bringing together one of the largest multi-party insurance settlements ever seen in New Zealand; a real estate franchising model developed based on his original concept for the client; significant restructuring of companies and company groups working alongside accountants and financial controllers; restructuring of shareholding entities within businesses involved; plus many more commercial and property transactions that have been successfully concluded under his guidance.
For international clients looking for someone to manage their commercial transactions in New Zealand, Chris is the first person to call. Many of his clients rely on him to handle all of their New Zealand business, knowing that he will pro-actively ensure their interests are well looked after.
Alive to his law firm’s needs, Chris set up an online immigration business as a future prospect for the firm, which led to the growth of the firm’s Immigration expertise with three lawyers at the firm now focused on immigration related matters. In addition he is Finance Partner for Young Hunter, having solidified his finance role by working closely with the firm’s accountant to create a predictive and accurate cashflow model for Young Hunter itself.
UK born and NZ raised, Chris has a growing base of clients in the United Kingdom and the US and is looking to continue to build his client base in conjunction with the Immigration specialists on the Young Hunter team. Chris is available to work with new clients and welcomes the opportunity to discuss client requirements for doing business in New Zealand.
