Chris is a partner in our civil and commercial litigation team, and heads the firm’s insurance law team. Chris joined Young Hunter in 1997 and became a partner in 2002.
Chris acts for clients throughout New Zealand and specialises in all aspects of insurance law, with a particular emphasis on material damage and property insurance, business interruption, general and statutory liability and professional indemnity. As well as dealing with insurance issues, this work commonly involves negligence, commercial property, building and contract disputes. Chris also has a large medico-legal practice regularly advising and appearing for ACC in the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal. He is a former contributing author of Brookers Personal Injury in New Zealand, the leading ACC text.
Chris has extensive experience in a broad range of civil and commercial litigation at all level of courts in New Zealand as well as considerable experience in resolving disputes through alternative dispute resolution, particularly mediation.
Chris has previously lectured and tutored at the Canterbury Law School and has been a member of the faculty at the New Zealand Law Society Litigation Skills Programme since 2010. He is a former council member of both the Waikato Bay of Plenty and Canterbury District Law Societies and has served on a number of law society committees. Chris is a former committee member of the New Zealand Insurance Law Association and is regularly invited to speak at insurance industry seminars and conferences.
Chris graduated from the University of Canterbury and was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in 1989.
